Critical Communications Call Processing Consolidation
After a string of acquisitions in the emergency call handling/AI/video space, Motorola Solutions acquired Exacom to add dispatch/radio audio recording, security, and Exacom's interesting AI transcription capability [link]. Congratulations to Al Brisard and the Exacom team for this dramatic move that will take Exacom's innovation to more markets.
For Motorola Solutions, this acquisition fills vital gaps. It could make the company one of the few (if not the only) firms with a comprehensive end-to-end critical communications offering that extends from call intake and dispatch to TETRA/P25/Analog radio systems to portable radios in the field.
For agencies acquiring systems, the end-to-end nature of Motorola Solutions' offering presents both opportunities and risks. The upside comes in the form of a well-integrated suite of capabilities once Motorola digests its purchase. But the benefit may be offset by the long-term risk of vendor lock-in that restricts access to innovation and limits interoperability with systems outside the Motorola Solutions orbit.
Bottom Line
Motorola Solutions is a shrewd operator in the public safety market. The ability to bundle and strategically price this end-to-end capability gives the company a potent lever for profit going forward.
