The industrious team at Ascent Integrated Tech has worked to develop personnel location technology that can improve first responder safety. After competing successfully in the 2022 First Responder Smart Tracking Challenge, the team adjusted its focus to leverage commercial off-the-shelf wearable functionality that delivers personnel location and biosensor data. At #FDIC25, the team showed the result: A function-rich Smartwatch integrated into the Team Awareness Kit (TAK) platform. The combination supplies valuable data for operational personnel on mission, and it leverages the strengths of the TAK ecosystem.
TAK is important because the software ensemble is a civilian version of the US Department of Defense (DOD) software codebase supporting warfighters in the field. The capabilities supply situational awareness and team coordination. A civilian variant of TAK is gaining popularity as a solution for public safety situational awareness.
The Ascent Integrated offering supports a wide range of personnel status-tracking requirements in high-hazard operations. As a case in point, the District of Columbia Fire and EMS Department trialed these biometric smartwatches to monitor wellness and assess member readiness during a recent DC recruit class. These programs prevent injury or death during training evolutions and help ensure an optimal training program tailored to individual needs.
